New Orleans: the magic of the \u00ab\u00a0SPIRIT of TREME\u00a0\u00bb<\/h2>\n

As far as I can remember,as a\u00a0 child of TREME<\/strong>, after school I played for hours, the rhythms of music that made New Orleans<\/strong> famous, until my mother called me for dinner.<\/p>\n

One day at Phillis Wheatley School, in the heart of TREME\\’s 6 th Ward, it was announced the parade of the \\\u00a0\u00bbSecond Line Band<\/strong>\\\u00a0\u00bb that would pass by my home, on Galvez street then St Ann street to the St Phillip street, and would go all the way to the French Quarter. I was very excited about this. The parade would host a lot of social and pleasure club, with old fashion horses and buggies.<\/p>\n

Men were dressed in Tuxedo\\’s and top hats and ladies dressed so colorful with parasols to match.<\/p>\n

It was only music (Soul, Blues, Jazz, R & B …) in all TREME, from Monday to Sunday.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \t <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t

My life will be music!<\/h2>\n

As I accompanied my father ,\u00a0singer of Jazz and R & B<\/strong> in the ’50s and’ 60s, I heard music from boats going up and\u00a0 down the Mississippi River.<\/p>\n

I asked, my Dad \u00ab\u00a0Whose playing?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

And he replied\u00a0 \u00a0\u00bb Louis AMSTRONG son, on his trumpet\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow! I want to see him \u00ab\u00a0<\/p>\n

The next day, I said to my teacher: ‘Mr Alvin THOMAS,<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to be like Louis AMSTRONG\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Ok, Dale BLADE<\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n

\u00a0A week later, my mother bought me a trumpet.<\/p>\n

Influenced by the music of my father to whom I had great admiration, I decided to devote my life to music.<\/strong><\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

My first \u00ab\u00a0Band\u00a0\u00bb<\/h2>\n

\u00a0At 13 years old I was able to join my first Brass Band<\/strong> \u00ab\u00a0the Fairveiw Brass Band\u00a0\u00bb, where the great Leroy JONES played trumpet accompanied by my childhood friends we played everywhere in TREME<\/strong> and New Orleans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the help of the trumpeter<\/strong> David DECUIR who taught me a lot I gained more and more confidence with my instrument. David produced my first CD \u00ab\u00a0DALE BLADE Portrait of Soul<\/a>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n

\u00a0I played in many brass bands, all great. They are \u00a0all famous all over the world as \u201cDirty Dozen\u201d, \u201cKirk and Charles Joseph\u201d etc. It\\’s partly because of them that I became a musician.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \t <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t

My career as singer was busted just before Hurricane Katrina\u00a0<\/h2>\n

I kept learning my music directed by Donald RICHARDSON, recognized all over Louisiana as the best Band<\/strong> Director.<\/p>\n

As time goes by, Chris SEVERAN who played with, Diane REEVES, and Allen TOUSSAINT learned that I was singing, and asked me to record an album<\/strong> with him, called \u00ab\u00a0SOUNDFAITH\u00a0\u00bb. Eugene SANAGAL who played with \u200b\u200bLee DORSEY, Little RICHARD and the GUMBO of New Orleans funk music<\/strong> \u00ab\u00a0The NEVILLE brothers \u201c I began writing songs. \u00a0Michael (Patches) STEWARD\u201d who played with Al JARREAU and Marcus MILLER, Sarah VAUGH and Della RESSES inspired my musical life even more.<\/p>\n

It was common to hear sounds of bands that played in New Orleans at the renowned Lou’s Orange room in the heart of TREME<\/strong> such as: King Floyd, Joe TEX, Lil MILTON,\u00a0BB King, Albert KING, Lloyd PRICE, Bobby Blue BAND, Ernie K Doe and Fats Domino, \u00a0professor long Hair and many others\u2026<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

My collaboration with Fred Chapellier\u00a0<\/h2>\n

Dale BLADE <\/strong>sings Blues, Gospel, Soul or R&B, <\/strong>and received warm welcome from the french public.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Today, it is with Fred Chapellier that I continue to \u00a0pursue my musical adventure. A stroke of genius as the group formed this union, Fred Chapellier and his Gents featuring Dale Blade, marked its cohesion. In addition to the famous singer<\/strong>-guitarist, I find some of the finest guns of the French blues scene (Guillaume Destarac on drums, Christophe Garreau on bass, Philippe Billoin on keyboards and\u00a0 the Great Pascal \u00ab\u00a0Bako\u00a0\u00bb Mikaelian on harmonica ).\u00a0<\/p>\n
